Mobile Phone Appeal

Starship's Mobile Phone Appeal is a fantastic way you can help Starship kids, and the environment, without handing over a cent!

Donating your old mobile phone

  • Telecom, Vodafone and 2degrees all have mobile phone drop off points in their stores. Just ask at the counter.
  • Freepost envelopes are regularly inserted into national newspapers and magazines. Simply pop your old mobile phone in one of these envelopes and drop it in your nearest post box.
  • If you have a large quantity of phones, simply package them in a box, and email wendyn@swapkit.co.nz or call us on 09 377 4750.

We are happy to receive any make and model of mobile phone regardless of condition.

If you are a Mercury Energy customer you will have received this Mobile Phone Appeal envelope in your November statement.

Supporting the Starship National Air Ambulance

In just four years the Starship Mobile Phone Appeal has raised over $2million for the Starship National Air Ambulance Service. Over 650,000 phones have been donated!

The Starship National Air Ambulance flies top medical experts to life-threatening emergencies anywhere across the country. A highly trained team of specialists stabilise the children to allow them to be brought safely to Starship Hospital where they can receive the very best of care that they need. The Starship Foundation is committed to fundraising $1.5million annually for this life-saving service. Learn more about the Starship National Air Ambulance Service.

Below is a photo taken at the February 2013 event to celebrate raising $2million from the Mobile Phone Appeal. The Prime Minister John Key attended and donated a mobile towards the next $2million, along with Charlotte Stewart who flew up to Starship on the Starship National Air Ambulance recently.

What happens to the old phones?

The mobile phones that are donated which still have a useful life get refurbished and resold into third world countries. There are a small number that can no longer be used and these are broken down and recycled in an environmentally friendly way.
