Starship Child Health is the leading provider of paediatric care in New Zealand and the South Pacific, providing world-class inpatient, outpatient, trauma, emergency, and urgent care to children and their whānau. As the Nurse Practitioner for Starship’s Children’s Emergency Department (CED), you will provide specialist nursing care and expertise, both in direct patient care and in support of other staff in the department.

You will be joining at team that seeks to lead New Zealand in paediatric service delivery, in the provision of pre and post-graduate nursing education, and through the building of our reputation as a national centre of excellence in paediatrics. 

Our CED is the only one in New Zealand designed to focus exclusively on the needs of children. We receive 33,000 acute attendances per year and are the paediatric advanced trauma centre for the region. We have a high acuity mix, with approximately 22% of children being admitted. Our CED is housed in a purpose built facility with state of the art equipment and is staffed by a great team of health professionals.

What we can offer you

As the successful applicant for this role, you will be supported in an orientation to enable independent practice and competency in the management of children presenting to CED.

As the ideal candidate for this role you will :

  • Be a Nurse Practitioner in Acute services Child/Youth or Lifespan

  • Have a Masters qualification

  • have experience in a leadership role with a strong commitment to quality healthcare

  • be able to play a strategic role within the service to ensure service and organisational objectives are met

  • be passionate about paediatric nursing and providing family centred nursing care
