National Travel Assistance
The National Travel Assistance Scheme provides partial financial assistance to people who are referred by their specialist to another specialist and need to travel frequently or for long distances.
If your local specialist (not your doctor or GP) has referred your child to a specialist at Starship, you may be entitled to financial assistance towards your travel and, possibly, your accommodation costs. Your specialist will need to approve accommodation and any specialised transport needs before your appointment.
Transport and accommodation assistance relates to the patient (child) and one support person (a parent or caregiver).
For further information around eligibility and how to make a claim, see the Ministry of Health website.
