The resources below have been developed for tamariki who need treatment for their hips.

Hip spica casts

Hip spicas are commonly used to help treat developmental hip dysplasia (DDH). They can also be used in tamariki with fractures (broken bones) and other conditions where the hip needs to be stabilised.

Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is when the hip does not develop normally, leading to an abnormality in the size, shape, orientation or organisation of the femoral head, acetabulum or both. The abnormality may be present at birth or may develop during infancy or childhood.

Abduction brace

An abduction brace is a stiff plastic brace used for babies or toddlers with a hip disorder.
